Upcoming Release: Virtual

I interrupt your weekend for a special announcement for this 200th post on my blog (cheers and champagne for lots of blabbery!). I was sitting on this one for a while to make sure I could make it work, and it turns out I can! Many moons ago, I began posting a novella on this blog. The story went up by chapters, but got abandoned when other projects took over my brain and demanded my attention. I went back to it after I finished Wolfen, and still loved the story enough to want to do something with it. The chapters have now been removed from the blog, because as I began to edit, I realized a lot of big changes would… Read More »Upcoming Release: Virtual

Author-y Stuff

Happy Friday to all! I write to you today for a couple of reasons. The first is to give you an update on Wolfen. Which is that I am about ten chapters away from finishing my first self-edit. And that means after a final read-through to smooth rough edges (hopefully next week), the manuscript will be ready to be sent to my editor! I know it’s stretching long, but I take edits very seriously, as evidenced by a sea of red notes over my manuscript and the wide-eyed look of confused panic people give me when they see it. It’ll get there, I promise 🙂 And it’ll be worth the wait. The second is to continue my quest to help indie… Read More »Author-y Stuff

On Readers, Reading, and Literary Snobbery

As you might have noticed, a lot of my recent posts revolve around books and reading. It’s not so much because I am a writer and reader myself, but because I often encounter blogs and articles online featuring subjects that prod at my “This is not okay” meter, and I feel the need to rant. Thanks to this wonderful invention of a blog, I can do that, and you all are forced to hear me out. Muahahahah!

So let’s get to it, shall we? Today’s rant is about literary snobbery and should have an alternate title (which unfortunately did not fit into the title field):

You Are NOT What You Read! (unless you want to be)

A Valentine’s Day Treat

I’ve been a recluse today, busily plugging holes. Plot holes, that is. But I am given to understand today is a special day, and deserves a special celebration, and so I give you all this gift, a very naughty scene from Bastien. Warning in advance: This content is very, very adult.

12 Days of Christmas Excerpts Contest Day 11

_____ was the first man she’d seen whose scars were a fact of life. On him, they were a testament to his strength and will to survive. At least two of his scars would have been life threatening. He’d received them fighting for his life. As a scientist, _____ should have been impassive, looking at them. As a woman, she wanted to know how he’d gotten each one. She wanted to ask if it had hurt. There was another scar on his forearm. It looked like it had come too close to severing part of his limb. _____ watched her hand reach for that arm, as if she weren’t in control of it. _____ caught it in a flash, squeezing… Read More »12 Days of Christmas Excerpts Contest Day 11

12 Days of Christmas Excerpts Contest Day 10

The fantasy made the region around her heart ache. Why couldn’t she have met a guy like this before? Maybe if she had, her life would have turned out differently. Maybe he could have kept her thoughts and dreams occupied with more pleasant things than what those around her were thinking. Maybe she could have woken up with him, and spent her days smiling about how lucky she was, and come back home to sleep in his arms at night. Maybe he would have kept her so busy in his bed that she wouldn’t have had time to think about anything else. Ah, sex. _____ remembered having had it. So very long ago. Remembered not being impressed with it. She should… Read More »12 Days of Christmas Excerpts Contest Day 10

12 Days of Christmas Excerpts Contest Day 9

The doc cleared her throat. “In light of the unusual circumstances,”—her tone said just how much of an understatement that was—“I am willing to put aside what happened earlier, for now. I believe it is … not impossible … for us to have a rational conversation. After which, of course, I will expect you to leave.” It would have sounded almost professional if he didn’t keep picturing her naked. “Fair enough,” he managed. “Please, sit.” She hesitated, but finally sat, leaving plenty of room for herself, in case she had to bolt. He really hoped she wouldn’t. If he had to chase her down again, he might be tempted to do something stupid. “Who are you?” she asked, for the… Read More »12 Days of Christmas Excerpts Contest Day 9
