What’s in a Name? Everything: A Cover Reveal with its Own Back Story

If you’ve been following me foor a while you’ve probably heard (or saw, as the case may be) me talking about names and how vital they are in my writing process. If I don’t know a character’s name or their name doesn’t fit, I stall. If I can’t come up with a good name for a place or a realm, I get stuck. The same usually goes for book titles.  That’s where this whole insanity began.  I had a story. I had the characters. I had all the names. But the book documents were all saved in a folder called “Wish Demon.” Which is why, when I started working on the cover (in freaking 2024!!) it didn’t quite fit the… Read More »What’s in a Name? The Story Ends on December 8th, 2025

Given that title, I now need to specify that this is a book release announcement, not a call to arms. What a world we live in… *cue me sitting in silence for a full 5 minutes, trying to get my brain back on track and figure out what I actually want to say* It’s a lot. Turns out, I have much to say today so, TL;DR: The final installment of the Blood & Shadows series, War of the Shadows, has an official release date on December 8, 2025. Mark your calendars, and click that pre-order button when you find it. The Long Of It Blood Moons was the book that first got me published in 2010. Back then, it was… Read More »The Story Ends on December 8th, 2025

Announcing the Finale of Blood & Shadows

One hell of a journey Back in 2008, I was sitting on two and a half books of what was supposed to be a paranormal romance trilogy about futuristic shape shifters. By this point, I had already written well over a million words across many different novels, novellas, and short stories, but these were the first ones I seriously shopped around for publishing.  At the height of the eBook boom, I got lucky. It only took me three rejections to get an acceptance and, on September 10, 2010, the first book of that series was my first ever novel publication. I would go on to publish two more books with that publisher before I discovered that self-publishing was an option… Read More »Announcing the Finale of Blood & Shadows

Shadow Hound Release Date and Sneak Peek

I am so behind on all the announcements and promos for this release it’s not even funny. The timing just happened to overlap with a lot of other life priorities and I ran out of time to set up all of my marketing for release day. I want to say it bothers me but… Eh. The most important part of it for me is the book, and I am over the moon proud of how it all turned out. The story, the cover—everything. I loved these characters in Shadow Hawk, and I love them here. It occurred to me when I was formatting everything for print that I kind of threw down the gauntlet in the dedication of book 5,… Read More »Shadow Hound Release Date and Sneak Peek

What Is Love

I have this thing I like to say any time the topic comes up: “I like my men like I like my books—fictional.” Because, really, what avid reader out there hasn’t at one time or another fallen in love with a fictional character? If you’re one of the Lucky People whose minds are able to translate words printed on the page into vivid images and scenes in your mind’s eye, it’s almost a foregone conclusion. And if you’re a writer on top of that, well… infer from that what you will. LOL The joke is meant to be funny, but it speaks to something much deeper: the love I have for books and writing. And I know I’ve talked about… Read More »What Is Love

Coming 2023: Shadow Hawk

I come to you today with an exciting announcement I’ve been keeping under wraps for quite a while: my next book release! It’s probably not one you were expecting. I wasn’t, either. It just kind of snuck up on me while I was too busy watching the horror show the world had become when the pandemic hit. But it’s one that has been at the back of my mind for years. Now that it’s finished, I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. Get ready, because later this year, the Shadows are coming back. SHADOW HAWK will be the 5th installment of the Blood & Shadows series, and will be followed by at least one more full-length novel. This one is a… Read More »Coming 2023: Shadow Hawk

Update Phase 2: Blood and Shadows

As an update on my update process, I now have a print-proof from IngramSpark en route to me. I began with Wolfen, because it’s the longest and potentially the most problematic. I figure, if I can perfect that one, the rest of my print editions should be a breeze! =) Once I check that the layout is good, the font is readable, and the cover prints the way it’s supposed to, I will be (re)formatting all my other print editions for IngramSpark. The life of an Indie author…

Oh, who am I kidding? I live for this stuff! Seriously, the hardest thing about the entire process (for me, anyway) is the wait I have to endure before I can move on to the next step. So, having redone the Dawn of Ragnarok covers, and while I’m waiting for Wolfen to arrive on my doorstep, I’ve been keeping busy redesigning the Blood and Shadows series covers. Again, there is a valid, technical reason for me doing this. Because of the darkness and the contrast, the old covers didn’t print correctly, and I had to fix that, which resulted in covers that look faded on the screen and almost too dark in print. And, as much as I love the dramatic look of them, the corona lighting elements were more in line with alien themes than what my books are actually about.

And that is why I absolutely love this new design. It’s light and dark, mirroring the battles in the books, as well as the larger series arc, and it incorporates an element of the biggest theme in the books: DNA and its manipulation. These covers convey the story much better than their previous incarnations, and I’m practically salivating to see them in print, because they will look out of this world gorgeous!

Don’t believe me? See for yourself:
