Writer’s Gonna Read: November Check-in

I’ve actually been reading up a storm the last few months, but these updates turned out to be a pain in the ass… BUT I did promise to keep myself accountable, so here goes (although I made it easy on myself and contracted recent books under series names for less typing)… Books I’ve read: Have You Seen This Girl by Carissa Ann Lynch Soulless Monk by Lincoln Farish Sweet Ruin by Kresley Cole Cold-Hearted Rake by Lisa Kleypas If You Dare by Kresley Cole If You Desire by Kresley Cole If You Deceive by Kresley Cole Mine Til Midnight by Lisa Kleypas Seduce Me at Sunrise by Lisa Kleypas Tempt Me at Twilight by Lisa Kleypas Married by Morning by Lisa… Read More »Writer’s Gonna Read: November Check-in

Writer’s Gonna Read: May Check-in

Cheating again, re-reading books from years ago. It’s like visiting old friends and I can’t seem to help myself. I get nostalgic. LOL But I did read a couple of new ones, so the tally so far stands thusly: Books I’ve read: Have You Seen This Girl by Carissa Ann Lynch Soulless Monk by Lincoln Farish Sweet Ruin by Kresley Cole Cold-Hearted Rake by Lisa Kleypas If You Dare by Kresley Cole If You Desire by Kresley Cole If You Deceive by Kresley Cole Mine Til Midnight by Lisa Kleypas Seduce Me at Sunrise by Lisa Kleypas Tempt Me at Twilight by Lisa Kleypas Married by Morning by Lisa Kleypas Love in the Afternoon by Lisa Kleypas Dark Desires After Dusk… Read More »Writer’s Gonna Read: May Check-in

Writer’s Gonna Read: March Check-in

I went on a Victorian binge after I finished the one on my reading list, so a whole lot of unintended re-reads happened. But in my defense, I haven’t cracked these open in years and years, so it’s like I was reading them for the first time. And then I got a serious craving for one of my all time favorites by Kresley Cole, an author whose books never fail to get my imagination going and my muse bouncing off the walls. So my tally so far looks like this: Books I’ve read: Have You Seen This Girl by Carissa Ann Lynch Soulless Monk by Lincoln Farish Sweet Ruin by Kresley Cole Cold-Hearted Rake by Lisa Kleypas If You Dare by… Read More »Writer’s Gonna Read: March Check-in

Writer’s Gonna Read: Reading List

Stage 2 of staying accountable. Here is my list of books to be read in the near future, in no particular order: Have You Seen This Girl by Carissa Ann Lynch Soulless Monk by Lincoln Farish Sweet Ruin by Kresley Cole Cold-Hearted Rake by Lisa Kleypas Life Interrupted by Yessi Smith The Undoing by Shelly Laurenston This is just my list. There MUST Be Blood!!

BloodHuntAnyone else get paranoid when they’re editing (or self-editing) a manuscript and there are almost no corrections on a page? I am working my way through Blood Hunt, going on 16 chapters now, and so far all I’ve been fixing are contractions and a word choice here or there. I won’t lie, it had me worried until I remembered I’d already done a hard edit of this part when I hit the halfway point. Still, it somehow doesn’t seem right to leave a page without red ink.

Editing And The Art Of Not Losing Your $#!+

With NaNoWriMo fast approaching, there are a lot of people out there gearing up for marathon writing sessions to reach that 50,000 word mark. For those unfamiliar with the event, the challenge is to write a novel in a month with minimal edits and rewrites. You just type like crazy, and then you go back to make it all look nice. It’s a useful event to get writers going (because, let’s face it, sometimes it’s easier to procrastinate and put off the finish in favor of tinkering with one particular chapter). But it doesn’t make for good quality writing. At least not on its own. Sooner or later, you will have to face the dreaded edits. So let’s talk about those…
