learning new skills

Welcome to my new hyperfixation!

I’m learning to draw. Never drew before in my life. Ironically, I was inspired by AI. I know how that sounds, but I saw AI generate character art, I wanted some to put into my books, but I didn’t want them to be AI. So I did some research, one thing led to another, and I ended up with a digital painting app and a drawing tablet. And now I’m hooked. I created this gallery to gather receipts and track progress. Peruse at your leisure and enjoy the evidence of my struggle to become an artist.  Yes, it’s okay to laugh, wince, and shudder. No, I’m not open to tips or critiques. I know what I’m doing wrong, I just can’t get my hand to do it right (yet). I’m working on it!

Fun fact: I ran out of post-it notes. I may need to get a cheap sketch book after all...

In many ways, digital painting is a lot easier than pencil sketching. But it can also get complicated with layers, layer modes, blending, etc. I will say that, having started this journey on the drawing tablet, I now find myself trying to "undo" mistakes when drawing with a pencil. Also, did you know physical paper doesn't zoom in when you do the two-finger expand motion on it? Weird...
