Dear readers,
I don’t know about you, but 2019 has been one hell of a ride for me. A lot has happened and changed in many aspects of my life. Some of it wasn’t so great, but most of it was wonderful, and for that I am thankful.
December has always been a magical month for me. Christmas is one of the biggest holidays in my home country, and there are many traditions celebrated throughout the month, all the way to about mid-January. It’s a season for family and loved ones. We make time to get together with relatives and friends, we reflect on the old year, and drink to the new.
Good food, plenty of sweets, and lots of alcohol are always on hand and, while we do exchange gifts, it’s the spirit of togetherness that creates the magic. Well, that and all the lights and decorations. 😉
In that spirit of togetherness, I wanted to take a moment today to write you a note and say thank you. Thank you for being here, reading this letter. Thank you for allowing me to share my stories with you. Thank you, because you are the other side of a writer’s conversation. Without you, we’re all just speaking into the void.
But this year, there is another tradition I want to observe: Jólabókaflóð, or the Icelandic book flood. Since books are what brought us together, books are my humble offering this year.
