Snow White’s Rebels Rebel

Dear readers,

The most frustratingly rewarding thing to happen to a writer is when a story gets away from them. It’s frustrating, because nothing goes according to plan and, no matter how hard we try, we just can’t get it to behave the way we planned. But it’s also rewarding, because we get to discover the story as it evolves, the same way our readers do when they pick up our books for the first time.

The Rebel Court series is a poster child for this phenomenon. Originally, I’d planned for seven erotica stories to span roughly 20,000-25,000 words each. Quick little novellas I could churn out one after the other and send out to readers by chapters as they were written.

Obviously, that’s not how it happened…

What should have been a little side project now has a rich and complicated life of its own. Erotica turned into erotic romance, and my 25,000 word goal (ha…) became 35,000 for book 1, and 50,000 for books 2 and 3 respectively. I don’t regret a single one of those words. But I also have to acknowledge that they’ve become too cumbersome to send out on the fly as I’d planned to do.

The feedback I’ve gotten seems to support this. With the first book, the chapters were sent out once a week, and the wait was far too long. With the second, the chapters were sent out once a day, but my stats tell me that most of the recipients didn’t open the individual chapters until the very end. Clearly, a by-the-chapter format doesn’t work for stories of this size.

Here’s where I do the good news, bad news thing.

The good news is that Sweetest Kiss is ready for its debut and the first chapter will go out on July 1, 2018. If you still want to read it by chapters in your inbox, and haven’t signed up for the mailing list yet (or haven’t received the start date announcement email), click here to get in before that date.

The bad news is that this will be the last Rebel story to be shared this way and, once the sign-up closes, it won’t reopen. The Rebel Court mailing list will remain active to the existing members who will continue to receive exclusive VIP excerpts, teasers, coupons, and giveaways for this series as it grows, but the rest of these books will go straight to publication and distribution, just like all my other books.

Thank you to those who have stuck around with the series this long. You helped me try an experiment and, while it didn’t work the way I’d hoped it would, it turned into something bigger and better than I’d anticipated. 🙂 My commitment to Snow White’s Rebels hasn’t changed. I still plan to do an additional four stories, and possibly more after that, depending on how things develop, and I hope you’ll continue to follow the series to its conclusion.

Sincerely,

Alianne
