And it truly does turn. Just a little while ago I was still getting used to writing dates as 2011 and here we are, nearly at the end of October already, a little over a year away from the official end of the world. For those of you who don’t know, the world will end December 21, 2012. Although I think they have it confused. I think it should be the 20th. You know, 20.12.2012.
Right. But until that happens, there’s still stuff to do.
For example, National Novel Writing Month is only a handful of days away. A challenge to anyone who has ever wanted to write a novel to write 50,000 words in one month. The trick, they say, is to write anything and everything, even if it’s bad, without going back to edit or rewrite. Quantity over quality, sort of. You can always go back and fix after the month of intensive writing but the point is to have as much as possible to edit by then.
I plan on rising to this challenge. I have a two-thirds finished novel sitting on my desk and it’s been shooting spitballs at me for a year and a half. I want that sucker finished and done with. And since that will only constitute about 30,000 words of the required 50,000, I am mulling over another project which may or may not ever come to completion.
I’ve done this twice already (cheated a little because I started late so I tacked on those few days to the end, but don’t tell anyone!) and it’s always given me motivation to sit my behind down and write, even when I don’t think I have anything in me at the time. Because I am so paranoid, I don’t “officially” sign up on their website, but I do keep track of my word count. This year, I thought I’d do that with a little badge and the word count updated by hand. I’ll have that running in the sidebar here, so if you see me slacking off, yell at me! lol That tends to work too.
Have you ever participated? Would you want to try? It’s free! ;D
