Hello, and welcome to my blog!
It’s not much yet. A work in progress, if you will, but don’t get discouraged; there’s more to come soon.
You probably don’t know me, so allow me to introduce myself. My name is Alianne (that is my pen name). I write … pretty much everything: short stories, novellas, full-length novels, in almost every genre out there. Except straight contemporary and “true stories.” Those kind of stump me. And for good reason: For me, reading is about escaping reality and immersing myself in something out of the ordinary. I want to be taken on a wild ride, and that’s what I strive to accomplish with my writing.
So what can you expect from this blog?
Well, as soon as I figure out the ins and outs of this site, I hope to post some excerpts and previews of my work. I also want to keep some kind of record of a writer’s journey in getting their works published for the first time. I probably should have started this blog a few years ago, but nothing significant has really happened since then, aside from a few rejection letters. Alas, that, too, is part of the process.
For now, allow me to impart a little piece of advice for all writers out there aspiring to be published. I realize I’m probably not the best person to give out advice about anything at this point, but I have my reasons for doing it anyway. I look around, and see brilliant artists and writers, the brightest the world has to offer, get lost and bogged down by advertising and mainstream marketers. I see books which I would consider a waste of paper get printed in bulk, because the author just happened to say the right thing to promote him/herself. And I see the impact it is having on those people who write from their hearts, and don’t necessarily have a head for the business side of things.
To those people, I would like to say this:
Please don’t change who you are. Write what you love; what’s in your heart, begging to be let loose. Write what you would like to read, and not what someone tells you is popular. Don’t write, if your ultimate goal is just to make money. Write, because it is what you live and breathe. Write, because you can’t not. It’ll make success all the sweeter when someone recognizes your passion and chooses to reward you for it.
