Happy Happy Kindle Day

And today it’s Touch 3G vs. Fire:

Now, I don’t know about you, but I am in heaven. It’s like Amazon peered into my thoughts and made my dreams come true. And now I am torn between what looks like two amazing devices.

On the one hand, Kindle Touch 3G. The best of the Kindle with none of the encumberances. It’s got a touch screen, which eliminates the need for a keyboard, same screen size as the old version, a great capacity, allows for audio books and Read-To-Me (or whatever it’s called – and here I hope there is an earphone jack) and it even lets you borrow books from the library! How neat is that? The 3G is automatic, there’s no Wi-Fi set up, so you’re good to go at home or internationally. This is the Kindle I have been holding out for.

And on the other hand, Kindle Fire. A direct competitor, they say, to the Nook Color 2, which means it has a full color back-lit screen, higher storage capacity, and is more like a touchpad PC, with Amazon’s own web browser, access to their digital media, etc. It’s small, only has a 7″ screen, which makes me iffy, but it has the same/similar movie, music, reading, apps featuresa s the iPad. The only thing it’s lacking is the cameras. Which, I don’t know about you, but those make me paranoid as hell. I always think someone is using built-in webcams to spy on me. Which is why I have blacked out cling on the one on my laptop, and I always close it down when not in use, just to be safe. But I wouldn’t have to worry about that with the Kindle Fire, which is great.

I put both of these on my wish list. I might even get both, if push came to shove. Right now, though, While the appeal of a color browser is there, I think I’m leaning more towards the Kindle Touch 3G. My book lover heart cringes at giving up the smell of a good old book, the feel of pages between my fingers, and the look of a beautiful cover on my bookshelf, but I think it’s time to take the leap.

Even if I do get this, however, it won’t replace my paper books completely. I think part of me is still expecting society to break down (possibly next year ;) ) in some great event that will render all technology useless and plunge us all into Antiquity. If that were to happen, I think the first thing I’d hoard would be not water, food, or clothes, but books. So, books still my first love and, as you know, that’s not something one ever gets over. But my second love is technology, and these new devices are singing a powerful siren’s call.

What do you think? Would you get one of these devices, or a different one? Which one?

Stuff and Things and Release Dates

I am writing a quick hello from Paradise. Sort of. Except for the mosquitos for which I have become a banquet. I have lost count after the first 25 bites.

This morning I had a 3am wake up call. Literally (because someone at my hotel decided it’d be fun to pull the fire alarm as a prank) and figuratively (because I realized I forgot to announce the release date for Blood Trails – YIKES!!)

So, the news many of you have been waiting for: The official release day for Blood Trails is October 3rd, 2011. The contest for the ARCs is still going until Sunday here  and at my Facebook page, and two lucky winners will get to read Blood Trails a whole two weeks early!

And now that that is done, I’m off again to enjoy some more warmth before going back home, where it’ll be considerably less nice. =) See you soon!

Blood Trails ARC giveaway.

Yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like. Actually, it’s better. I’ll be giving away two autographed e-versions of Blood Trails (PDF format). It’s my beach vacation time, which Hailey would very much approve of, so in her honor, I’m going to make it very easy and laid back. No hoop jumping, no tests.

Two prizes means two chances to win. The deadline for both is midnight (11:59pm to make it clear) PST on September 18th, so you have a week and a day to enter. The prizes, as I said, are two autographed PDFs of Blood Trails ARC (advanced reading copy). And yes, if you win, you will get it before the release date.

How to play:

1. Leave a comment on this post and tell me where your favorite vacation spot is. I will choose a winner at random from all the comments.

2. “Like” my Facebook Page. I will pick the second winner at random again.

Winners will be announced at both places on Monday, September 19th. Good Luck!

The Story of Before and After

Hello! And welcome to the Labor Day Blog Hop. As the title suggests, we have some working men on tap this weekend. And I myself have a “before” and “after.” In case you stumbled upon this page by accident but are just titillated enough to want more, check out the entire Hop. It starts here. And now on to the good stuff:

“Right there,” she said. “Yeah, deeper. Deeper, as far as you can go. That’s it.”

He grunted and bore down.

“Perfect. Twist a little, yeah just like that. A little farther, yesyesyes!”

“Woman, will you shut up and let me do this?”

“But you’re almost there! Just a little–”

“Well maybe if you moved your ass a little I could get some leverage.”

Blushing, Linda shifted enough that her head wasn’t hovering over the sink anymore.

Breathing half in relief and half with defeat, Damon pulled his tool out. “This isn’t working.”

“What do you mean?” she whined, big eyes growing teary.

“I mean, love, that I can’t get in there from this angle. I’ll have to go in from underneath.”

She swallowed. “Can you do that?”

Damon scratched his head, contemplating the situation. “It’ll be messy,” he warned. “But yeah. Yeah, I can do it.” The things he did for this woman… on a Sunday, no less. He was pretty sure that when God invented the seventh day of rest, this was not what He had in mind.

“I’ll get some pillows and towels,” Linda said gravely.

He watched her lush ass sway left and right – he swore she did that just to get under his skin. And damn if it didn’t work. Every. Time.

She returned in less than a minute, her arms full. They arranged the pillows on the edge, towels at the ready. Damon lay down, his head right underneath. He clamped down and flexed his considerable muscles, honed from years of hard work. Doing this.

“You can do it, babe,” she cheered and he almost laughed. Hell yeah, he could do this. But he could show off a little, too. “Go… go…. Go!”

The tension gave way with a rush and Damon was drenched. Linda squealed and handed him a towel to wipe his face off. He grunted again when he carefully released the p-trap. It took some careful maneuvering to get out from underneath the sink. Linda watched him with baited breath as he turned the piece of plumbing over.

A mass of gunk plopped out on one of the towels, mixed in a decent sized hair ball. Damon eyed Linda’s long blond hair and refrained from commenting. It was useless.

Poking around in the stuff, he finally saw a faint glint of gold. Linda gasped and ripped it out of his hand before he could even get a good grip. And right back to the damn sink she went to wash it off.

With the p-trap still in his hand.

“Stop!”

Linda froze.

“Put it down.”

She did.

Glaring daggers, he stuck his upper body back under that sink to reattach the pipe and make sure it was sealed tight. When it was finished, he stood up and took the ring to rinse off for her. He took her hand to put it back on her finger. “Now what have we learned?” For the fifth time. This year.

“Don’t leave wedding ring at the edge of the sink when I’m washing up,” she answered obediently. Then, smiling so bright he felt his heart skip, she flung her arms around him and smacked a loud kiss on his mouth. “Thank you, honey.”

Damon grinned at his wife. “You’re welcome.” He slapped both hands over her ass. “Now what should we do for the rest of the day?”
